Grounding With Nature & Myself Through Sound: Sound Therapy Day 1
Who knew a playlist of birds and rivers could make me rethink how I experience the world? A drive, some nature sounds, and suddenly, I’m actually listening…for once.
Day 1.
As I head into Day 2 of my four-day journey with sound therapy, I’m sitting here writing my wrap-up for Day 1, beginning with something simple yet profound: nature sounds. The day itself started off a little chaotic. I felt restless, like my energy was bouncing off the walls with nowhere to go. Stressed, unfocused, a bit too wired for my own good.
So, I turned to nature.
How driving with nature sounds changed my awareness.
I played recordings of rivers flowing, leaves rustling, birds singing while driving. At first, it was just background noise, pleasant, sure, but not something I thought would really change anything. But as I drove, I started feeling like I was hearing the actual sounds of the places I was passing. The birds, the wind, the trees all felt more present. It made me feel more connected to my surroundings in a way I hadn’t expected.
Josh has always found driving itself to be therapeutic, a kind of moving meditation. His perspective on this is worth reading.
Later, when I stepped outside, I noticed I was naturally listening more for the real sounds of nature.
Have you ever experienced something like this? Let me know in the comments or share your perspective!
The birds, the breeze, the little rustling noises I usually tune out. As I sit in my kitchen with the back door open, reflecting on it now, I’m even more aware of the birds, noticing them in a way I hadn’t before.
How this small change affected my stress.
For the first time that day, my stress felt... manageable. It didn’t disappear, but it leveled out, softened at the edges. The sounds had a way of pulling me into the present moment, making me notice things I would have otherwise overlooked.
Sound therapy isn’t magic, but there’s definitely something to it. It’s not just about listening, it’s about noticing. About tuning in instead of tuning out. And for a moment, that made all the difference.
Like a baby.
And call me crazy, but I had the best night of sleep last night. I woke up feeling more rested than usual. Maybe it was just the day, but it was certainly interesting.
On to Day 2!
