Finding Calm in the Music of Minecraft: Sound Therapy Day 3
Ambient and instrumental music didn’t just set a mood, it took me somewhere unexpected... into a Pixar movie, and beyond.
Day 3.
Yesterday’s focus was ambient and instrumental music, and compared to the last two days, this one felt different.
I was having a relatively normal day, the weather was nice, I was a little in my head but nothing too heavy.
I figured this would be a low-key experiment.
I ended up mostly listening to coffeehouse jazz and Minecraft instrumentals, and let me tell you, this was on a whole different level.
The music became a bridge to the past.
There was something about the coffeehouse jazz that felt cinematic, like to me it gave Pixar movie vibes.
Toy Story, Ratatouille, that kind of warm nostalgia. And at one point, while driving, I felt something unexpected:
I had a moment where I connected with my younger self. It wasn’t just remembering. It was like actually talking to and acknowledging that version of me.
I let myself sit with it. Recognize it.
Almost as if I could tell that younger version, Hey, we’re okay now. And then, just as quickly, I moved on with my day.
Have you ever had a moment where music made you reconnect with a past version of yourself? Let me know in the comments.
The Minecraft instrumentals carried a different kind of weight.
More than just background music, they had this almost out-of-body quality. Like I was floating in between memory and the present moment, letting the music pull me wherever it wanted to.
What I took away from this.
I wasn’t expecting anything deep from instrumental music, but it ended up being the most emotional experience so far.
It’s funny how sound can do that: bring up memories, create a sense of closure, or just let you be in a moment you didn’t even know you needed.
Three days in, and sound therapy is still surprising me.
On to Day 4.
